What we do, in one sentence
We answer the practical question every arriving traveller has: which pier do I leave from, where do I get off, how long does it take and what does it cost, for how many people and how many bags. Every page starts from a real route and works out the cost per head, so you can weigh a private taxi against a shared seat, the Alilaguna waterbus or the vaporetto.
The site is run by the editorial team of venicetaxi.boats. We are a publishing project, not a travel agency and not a transport operator.
What we are not
- We are not a water-taxi operator. We don’t own or charter boats and hold no licences.
- We are not the Comune di Venezia (Venice City Council) or any of its offices. The council’s official website is comune.venezia.it.
- We are not affiliated with any water-taxi consortium or cooperative, nor with Alilaguna, ACTV or ATVO.
If any page seems to suggest otherwise, that’s our mistake — tell us and we’ll fix it.
How we research
We rely on three kinds of source and keep them apart.
- The official tariff. Water-taxi fares are set by the Comune di Venezia. Whenever we quote an official fare we say so and name the source. An official fare and an operator’s commercial price are different things, and we never blur them.
- Platform data. Prices, ratings, review counts and durations for bookable services come from our partners’ data (GetYourGuide and Tiqets) and are refreshed regularly. That’s why our pages say “at the time of checking”: the price you see when you book is the one that counts.
- Operator dossiers. For each consortium, reseller or transport company we collect the public record — website, terms, official contacts — in files we reread before writing an operator review.
When a detail can’t be confirmed by a reliable source, we either leave it out or say plainly that it’s unverified.
How we make money
The site is free to read. It’s funded by affiliate commissions: some links lead to GetYourGuide or Tiqets, and if you book through them the platform pays us a small percentage. Your price stays the same.
These links pass through redirect addresses such as /go/… and are marked as sponsored (nofollow/sponsored), as search engines require. The full details are on our disclaimer and affiliate disclosure page.
Bookings, payments, changes, cancellations and refunds are handled by the platform and the local operator — never by us.
Editorial independence
Commissions don’t decide what we write. In practice:
- no operator or platform can pay for a review, a better verdict or a higher position;
- if a product has few reviews or poor ratings, we say so — partner products included;
- we call things what they are: if a “boat transfer” is really an Alilaguna ticket, that’s what we write;
- when the best-value option earns us nothing — say the vaporetto or Alilaguna — we still recommend it.
Corrections
Fares change, piers move, products disappear from platforms. If you spot a mistake:
- email info@venicetaxi.boats with the page and what looks wrong, ideally with a source;
- we check it and, if you’re right, we correct the text;
- for material corrections (a fare, a timetable, a directions point) we update the page and don’t hide that the earlier information was wrong.
